Small Group Workshop
Treasurers and Fundraising
– Chesapeake Room
PTAs' purpose is not fundraising, but PTA advocacy efforts often involve
money. This workshop topics
will include the IRS 990's that all PTA must file this year along with all
of the other responsibilities and duties that a treasurer has.
Discuss tips on how fundraising chairs and treasurers can work
effectively together. Presenter: Amy

Family Involvement and Promoting Volunteerism –
Severn Room
Volunteers are the heart of PTA. Discuss
ways to encourage all parents to participate in their children’s'
education and in PTA, create a welcoming environment for volunteers,
reach out to families in our diverse PTA communities and provide useful

Health/Wellness –Susquehanna Room
There is increasing momentum in this movement that we are all a part of
and as a concerned parent, it is an exciting time to get together and
share the wealth of knowledge and ideas.
Whatever your specific goal in wanting healthier, happier
children, we'll be much more effective in attaining our goals by helping
each other and learning from one another.

evening of sharing successful ideas for this school year's After Prom

The PTA Council
Howard County (PTACHC) Family Involvement Committee is sponsoring
a Coat Drive to support the Howard County Public School System Pupil
Personnel Workers (PPW) efforts to meet the needs of some of our
county children. New or gently used (cleaned, all zippers and buttons
work, ready to wear) boys and girls coats of all sizes adult are
needed. Caps and gloves may also be donated. Please bring your donations
to the November 10th PTACHC meeting . The PPW
staff will be on hand to receive our donations. The PPW staff would
like to distribute as many of the items as possible before the holiday
season. Any unused items may be donated to the Grassroots shelter
by the PPW staff. Please bring coats at 7 pm before the
meeting.

Treasurer’s
Trove
All
PTAs are an incorporated business. As such, there are many
important requirements that the IRS places on private, nonprofit
organizations. One
is the Form 990. This form is due to the IRS on or before Nov.
15. All PTAs must file.
PTA
Memberships - The invoice for your membership cards should
have been sent to you from MD PTA. Remit to MD PTA only those
memberships sold to date and then remit monthly through March 31.

Scholarship -. A great big Thank You to Bryant Woods, Clarksville
Middle, Forest Ridge, Ilchester, Lime Kiln, Mt. Hebron, Oakland Mills
High, and River Hill for their generous donations to the PTACHC
Scholarship Fund this year.

listed, please send your audit report as soon as possible. This is
required per MD PTA bylaws and your insurance company.
INSURANCE
- remember that your PTA now has coverage for bonding, liability, and
director's and officer's insurance through the MD PTA policy. You
have coverage through Oct. 2009. You do not need any other
policies.

the difference between American Education Week in Nov. and Take your
Family to School week in Feb?. Am. Ed. Week is a program of the
National Education Assoc. Take your Family to School week is a
National PTA program designed to get parents connected to their
children's school experience. Both are designed to get parents
into their children's school.
